Flat 6 Concepts was founded by Christos Joannides in 2008, and was built on the premise of providing simple, clean and understated design to a discerning clientele.  At Flat 6 Concepts we love the work we do and bring a wealth of experience to start up companies and businesses looking to brand or revamp themselves. Balance, proportion and clarity are elements that drive us and inspire us. We believe that a cohesive brand strategy; a properly designed identity; a website that is intuitive and easy to navigate; a mailer that is memorable; an e-blast that is effective, are some of the assets every company needs to succeed in today's cluttered market. We are here to partner with you and are passionate about helping you build your business, and add value to your brand. We do focus on luxury branding, a term used to convey branding for companies in the luxury space, but good design is good design, and that can translate to all products and services. No matter what industry you are in, if you are a design centric company and love design as much as we do then maybe we are a good match. And in the process, we always keep in mind that your success is undoubtedly ours as well. If you feel we are a good match, let's work together! Contact us. We would love to help out in any way we can.

Our Process

Starting a new project is always fun and exciting for us! In branding and most design, our job as designers is to gather all pertinent information about a client, simplify that information, amplify it and unify it by narrowing the focus of the message. We achieve that by following a simple five step process.

In the discovery phase we delve into our client's industry, conduct market research, interview key management, evaluate existing brands and clarify vision, strategies, goals and values.

We then focus on a brand strategy, develop a positioning, create a naming strategy and develop a creative brief that will allow us to understand the client’s expectations and requirements.

Discovery and strategy lead us to our favorite creative phase. Here we begin exploring type, color, applications and completing the brand architecture.

Once we finalize the design, we develop look and feel and prioritize design applications. At this point we would also initiate trademark protection if necessary.

Finally our brand / design is ready to launch! By building a synergy around the new design and developing brand guidelines and standards, the design components known as assets, are ready to be unveiled.

Christos Joannides is a Cypriot born American creative director living and working in Los Angeles.  Born to an architect father and stylish mother, he was raised to appreciate refined, uncluttered design - a train of thought that still inspires him and permeates his work. He studied at Pepperdine University and is fluent in both Greek and English and finds inspiration in the world and philosophy of Ancient Greece and Italy, as well as the undeniable elegance of France and the sincerity of Japanese minimalism. He is inspired by world travel and beautiful, bespoke, simply designed items. His second favorite city is Tokyo. His first being his hometown of Los Angeles. He is an avid lover of round headlight British, Italian and German sports cars and convertibles from the 1950s, 60s and 70s. He is inspired by the works of Pablo Picasso, Mark Rothko, Rembrandt, Jackson Pollock, Ellsworth Kelly and the photography of Peter Lindbergh and Helmut Newton. He loves Richard Serra and has immense respect for Andy Warhol and his profound legacy. His favorite furniture designers are Charles and Ray Eames. He is an advocate for "honest" design coined by the legendary product designer, Dieter Rams, as well as Jonathan Ive and the one and only, Mr Steve Jobs. He is inspired by graphic design greats Massimo Vignelli, Chermayeff & Geismar, Milton Glaser, Paul Rand and Otl Aicher.

Christos talks about design in his blog and is often tapped for his expert opinion on stories on all things luxury for the New York based luxury news website LUXURY DAILY.
